SYRIA, Seleucis and Pieria. Antioch. Augustus, 27 BC-AD 14. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 14.62 g, 12 h), CY 29 and COS XIII = 2 BC. ΚΑΙΣΑΡΟΣ ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΥ Laureate head of Augustus to right. Rev. ΕΤΟΥΣ ΘK ΝΙΚΗΣ / IΓ Tyche seated right on rocks, holding palm frond in her right hand; below, half-length figure of river god Orontes swimming to right; in field above, two monograms. McAlee 184. Prieur 54. RPC I 4155. A magnificent and sharply struck example with a superb portrait. Slightly rough, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
